Health and Wellness Classes and Preventative Services In person and Online
There are many class types and various dates and times to meet everyone’s schedule. Also virtual classes including health and wellness classes such as line dancing and yoga re available here.
CPAAA’s Wellness Coordinator offers classes at locations within Butler, Harvey and Sedgwick Counties. Currently offered are the evidence based Enhance Fitness class and Prevent T-2 Diabetes Prevention Program. The Wellness Coordinator can assist with making wellness related referrals for those looking for a local class or wellness activities or to provide a presentation or demonstration of the available classes. Older Americans Act Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Programs funds allows CPAAA to provide funding to local organizations to provide classes for older adults. Classes include Stepping On (Butler County), A Matter of Balance (Harvey County), Diabetes Prevention Program, Enhance Fitness and Tai Chi.
Community Education
A variety of educational presentations are also available upon request. General health and wellness presentation or other topics. Sessions can be scheduled on an as needed basis. Halt Diabetes Prevention Program (Halt DPP)
Take control of your life and prevent diabetes, register for HALT DPP
One in three U.S. adults has prediabetes and nine out of ten don’t even know they have it! Without intervention, many people with prediabetes could develop type 2 diabetes within 5 years. . Access this program from your smart phone, tablet or desktop when and where you want. This program is tailored to people at high-risk for type 2 diabetes and encourages sustained, meaningful engagement through trained lifestyle coaches and group support. Diabetes Prevention Makes Good Business Sense
Prevent T2, A Diabetes Prevention Program
You may be at risk for Type 2 Diabetes, but there is something you can do.
Central Plains Area Agency on Aging (CPAAA) offers a Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) called Prevent T2, which assists individuals who are overweight or in the pre-diabetic range to reduce their risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. With a focus on training adults 55 and older, CPAAA guides participants in the program to help them learn about healthy eating and increasing their physical activity. This program will encourage participants to learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle that may prevent the onset of Type 2 Diabetes. The class is offered in a group setting that allows participants to support and learn from each other. Eligibility for the program consists of a lab reading in the pre-diabetic range or by having a BMI of 25 or greater, in adults 18 years or older.

A Matter of Balance
A Matter of Balance (AMOB) fall prevention program emphasizes practical strategies to reduce fear of falling and increase activity levels of participants. Class attendees will learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and exercise to increase strength and balance. Many classes are scheduled throughout the year at local senior centers and senior housing locations in Butler, Harvey and Sedgwick Counties. Preventative Services
Medicare covers many preventative services to help you stay healthy including a welcome to Medicare preventative visit and a yearly wellness visit. Each month we’ll highlight preventative services that may be right for you or your loved one. Look for the blue apple in your Medicare and You book for more information.
